I've often watched logs burning in a fireplace and wondered what the wood could have become. I purchased these logs for $2 a piece from a guy selling firewood on Craigslist. He claimed they are white oak. By stripping off the bark and sanding the log smooth, I created a nice piece that could be used as a stool or as a side table.

RYOBI 18 Volt Chainsaw

I used the chainsaw to cut the logs down to length and to strip-off large chucks of bark.








RYOBI 4 1/2" Angle Grinder
Available at Home Depot
An angle grinder is a very powerful and versatile tool that is surpirisngly affordable. I used my angle grinder with a lancelot blade to remove bark and shape the log. I switched to sanding discs to sand the surface smooth.
