More closet space is always a good thing. Build a home for your clothes out of EMT conduit, pine boards and a 2x8. This is an easy way to organize the things that won’t fit in your closet.

SUPPLIES:

Laminated Pine Boards 18” by 48” by 3/4”
Available at Home Depot
Home Depot sells pre-cut, laminated pine boards that have nice square corners that are easy to work with. You can make a larger garment rack for a little less money by switching to plywood, but I like the convenience of these pre-cut boards.

1/2" EMT Conduit
Available at Home Depot
Conduit is light-weight metal tubing that is cheap and easy to work with. It can be bent and cut without power tools and comes in 5 foot or 10 foot lengths.

EMT Inside Corner Pull Elbow
Available at the Home Depot
These 90 degree fittings have a nice industrial look and are easy to tighten with a flathead screwdriver.

1 1/4" diameter dowels
Available at the Home Depot
I used two 48" long 1 1/4" diameter dowels for the clothes rods.

2x3
Available at the Home Depot
I used scrap 2x3s for the cross supports.

2x8
Available at the Home Depot
I used a 8 foot long 2x8 from Home Depot for the shelf sides. Sometimes only 10 foot long 2x8s are available. You can have the nice people at Home Depot cut the pieces for you if you don’t have a circular saw.
